The former acting Director-General of the Federal Institute of Industrial Research, FIIRO, Oshodi, Lagos, Chima Cartney Igwe, has been docked and granted bail in the sum of N500, 000 in the case of alleged certificate fraud.

This is the ruling of Justice Sherifat Solebo of the Ikeja Special offences Court following his arraignment and bail application on Friday.
The judge ruled that the defendant be granted bail pending perfection of his bail conditions.
He is also to provide two sureties who must be resident in Lagos and must be in current employment.
The defendant pleads not guilty to three count charge of knowingly giving a document with false information with intent to deceive his principal contrary to and punishable under Section 17(1)(c) of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act. 2000.
The defendant, Chima Cartney lgwe (m) was said, “Sometimes in December 2002 or thereabout in Lagos within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court while being a Public Officer with Federal Institute of Industrial Research. Oshodi (FIIRO) knowingly gave with intent to decieve an Attestation Letter signifying the completion of PhD Degree programme from University of Abomey Calavi, UAC, Republic of Benin to the Federal Institute of Federal Institute of Industrial Research. Oshodi, Lagos.
He was also alledged to have used his office to confer advantage upon self contrary to and punishable under Section 19 of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act 2000.
Meanwhile, the judge has adjourned commencement of trial to February 21- 24, 2022.
