    Driver Faces 3-Year In Jail For Manslaughter

    For allegedly reckless driving, and causing the death of a passerby, Nwanbueze Christian, a driver Ajayi Lekan who drove his master’s Toyota car was on Wednesday charged with manslaughter before a Lagos High Court in Ikeja.

    The prosecutor alleged that the offence was committed on or about the 20th September, 2021, at about 21:30hrs, around Super Alimosho, Lagos, within the Ikeja Judicial Division, while drunk.

    Ajayi Lekan was futher alleged to have taken the key of a Toyota Tacoma with Registration Number KSF623GD belonging to his boss, drove it dangerously and recklessly and consequently knocked down one Nwabueze Christian at Omiata area of Abule-Egba.

    According to the prosecutor, the defendant committed involuntary manslaughter contrary to Section 224 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015. 

    The defendant pleaded not guilty to the offence.

    Further hearing has been fixed for April 13, by the trial judge, Justice Oyindamola Ogala.

    If found guilty, he risk a-three-year jail term.
