Achieving a self sufficient Lagos with purposeful leadership is the theme of former Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Wale Oluwo as he declared for the Lagos Governorship race under the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

At a well attended conference in Ikeja, Lagos, he lamented the seemingly breakdown of the pride of Lagos and promised to restore them.

Top on the list is resetting Lagos on a new trajectory of security and inclusive prosperity. The return of Lagos to its true Owners, foster Lagos that creates opportunities, involvement of Youths in Governance, restoring the Sovereignty of the People.

Other areas he mentioned is the implemtation of reforms critical sector for GDP Growth, revenues and jobs, intensify industrialisation drive, leveraging on Energy and infrastructure, Transparency, progressivism, inclusivity, and protection of minority rights among others.

    Below is the full script

Today, I am pleased to formally announce to you that I will be seeking the nomination of my party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), to run for the Office of Governor of Lagos State. My motivation is altruistic and my sense of commitment to the people of Lagos is absolute! I was born and bred in Lagos and have lived practically all my life in Lagos State. I know Lagos and Lagos knows me. I do not have the privilege of being an indigene of another state because my maternal and paternal origins are deeply rooted in Epe, Lagos State

    Fellow Lagosians

    Why I am Running

I am running for office because I believe in the promise of Lagos and the capacity of its people to be great. I do not see Lagos as just one of the 36 States of Nigeria, I see Lagos as a capable of attaining self-sufficiency in the provision of amenities for all its inhabitants, just like Dubai. If given the opportunity to govern Lagos State, I will provide the leadership for a new team that will work to restore the dignity of Lagos State and re-establish its leadership role as we used to know it. To put it bluntly, am running for office to realize the following:

    1. Reset Lagos State on a new trajectory of security and inclusive prosperity
    2. Return the wealth of Lagos back to the people of Lagos (the true owners) 3. Birth a fairer Lagos that creates opportunity for ALL, not just for a few 4. Involve youths in governance, to prepare them for fast leadership transition.
    3. Restore the sovereign power of the people
    4. Re-establish status of Lagos as reference point for free democratic practice 7. Implement reforms in critical sectors for GDP growth, revenues and jobs 8. Intensify industrialization drive, leveraging on energy and infrastructure 9. Transparency, progressivism, inclusivity, and protection of minority rights.
    5. Restore the sovereign power of the people
    6. Re-establish status of Lagos as reference point for free democratic practice
    7. Implement reforms in critical sectors for GDP growth, revenues and jobs
    8. Intensify industrialization drive, leveraging on energy and infrastructure
    9. Transparency, progressivism, inclusivity, and protection of minority rights
    10. Reposition Lagos as an investment destination that is globally competitive.

    The Programmes I will Implement

Ours will be an effective reform-minded administration that will emphasize the following:

    1. Security
    2. Energy (Electricity, petroleum products, gas, renewables etc) 3. Transportation (Efficient movement of GPS-Goods, People & Services)
    3. Sustainable Financing/Empowerment (to create entrepreneurs) 5. Creative economy, Entertainment, Sports and Technology
    4. Human Capital Development 7. Physical and Social Infrastructure (particularly Health and Education).

    The Upcoming APC Primary Elections

Based on the Time Table of the All Progressives Congress, and barring any adjustment by the National Working Committee of the party, the APC Governorship Primary Election will take place on Friday 20th of May, 2022. This election will choose the flagbearer of our party for the governorship race in March, 2023 and I will be participating in the primary election as an aspirant. The eligible voters for the March 20th, 2022 election are the registered members of the APC and I hereby humbly solicit their support to choose me as the preferred candidate to fly the party’s flag as governorship candidate.

    My Message to APC Members

The APC is a popular party in Lagos that was voted into power in 2015 and 2019, we are grateful to Lagosians for that. It is important for our party members to consolidate this position by working together as one big family in order to retain power in Lagos.

The choice of the candidate we present to voters in 2023 will be a critical success factor in this regard. While the majority of Lagos voters still prefer to keep the APC in power in Lagos in 2023, the different voting demographics want the party to present a new leadership that will provide effective solutions to the economic, social and infrastructural problems confronting our people:

    A. Endless time in traffic while moving from one point to another in the city,

particularly for the working class who commutes to and from work daily?

    B. Inadequate power supply, when the federal regulations have since allowed state governments to generate off-grid electricity and distribute via Discos

    C. Massive unemployment and little or no social investments interventions to

financially empower our people to pursue their entrepreneurial dreams Deteriorating ease of doing business environment that fails to protect small business owners from harassments, extortions and multiple levies/charges Struggling education, health and other social sector services provision

    D. Deteriorating ease of doing business environment that fails to protect smallbusiness owners from harassments, extortions and multiple levies/charges

    E. Struggling education, health and other social sector services provision

    F. Security issues, particularly robbery, ritual killings, mob lynching, kidnappings, cultism, gang rivalry, arms proliferation and sundry crimes

    G. Flooding issues, particularly in Lekki and other low basin settlements

    H. Inadequate clean water, collapsed buildings and other safety concerns

I represent the face of that new leadership and urge our party members to support me as the flagbearer of the party. We are members of one big APC family. A lot of things have changed since the last elections in Lagos State, we must now put the people first in all that we do if we are to retain power in Lagos in 2023. We have the power to make this happen.

I thank members of our party and I commit myself to a free, fair, credible, violence free and transparent primary elections in the APC.

    God bless APC

    God bless Lagos State

    God bless Nigeria.

    OLUWO OLAWALE WASIU

    (APC GOVERNORSHIP ASPIRANT LAGOS STATE).
