The Social Democratic Party, SDP, has unveiled its deputy gubernatorial candidate in Lagos State, she is Olori Oba Morenike Animashaun.
The party’s choice to settle for Olori Oba Morenike Animashaun, an Epe indigene, to unseat the incumbent Lagos deputy governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat who also is the son of Late Oba Mufutau Olatunji Hamzat, is by popular choice after vast consultations with the political leaders and the people of Epe Division of Lagos State.
This was announced by Kunle Uthman Esq, the party’s gubernatorial candidate ahead of 2023 Gubernatorial Election in the state.
The gubernatorial candidate to unseat the current administration in Lagos according to Uthman, made this extremely popular choice after vast consultations with the political leaders and the people of Epe Division of Lagos State.
He explained thus, “As expected, it made what has since turned out as a correct and applausable choice of a fit, proper and dynamic lady who has immense followership and well respected by the people of Epe Kingdom and other divisions in Lagos State.
“Therefore, it was expected that the choice will generate a frenzy of positive reaction and wide acclamation from the people resident in Epe, Epe indigenes all over the Federation and in the Diaspora.
“The cacophonous reaction resonated and reverberated everywhere in Celebration, because wisely taken the Gubernatorial tickets of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Lagos State is a balanced Muslim: Christian ticket of highly cerebral persons, diverse and representing the vast interests of the State and asserting custom and traditions with a determination to run an all inclusive government, that will incorporate the traditional institutions.

The INEC pursuant to its obligations and the Electoral Law of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, has published the names of all Gubernatorial and Deputy Gubernatorial Candidates and House of Assembly Candidates for Elections in all the States of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
As expected, this publication and release of names has further excited the voters, political class and indeed the politicians in all the nooks and crannies of the Federation.
This was to be expected, because as it were, the voting populace and indeed all Nigerians have been formally notified of all candidates who will campaign and canvass for votes at the forthcoming elections in 2023. The candidates will soon start campaigning with a view to convince and inform the people of their manifestos and promises that will improve their lot. This is very important in our dear Nation where majority of the population seek a better life for themselves and their families.
Therefore, it may no longer be business as usual but a determination that after completion of the process the best among the contestants will energe.

We took cognisance that the incumbent Deputy Governor of Lagos State is the son of Late Oba Mufutau Olatunji Hamzat, the former traditional ruler of Afowowa Kingdom in Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State. Indeed there are others in the present Lagos State Cabinet from Ijebu-Mushin, Ekiti and other States of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
We know that by the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, an adult person is anyone above the age of 18 years, who can take decisions and take responsibility for such decisions.
The right to do this is inclusive of spousal relationship, fraternal, paternal or maternal.
As regards the forthcoming elections, all political parties are obliged to choose those among the populace who will best serve the interests of the people and give to the people the dividends of democracy.
We cannot continue to vote into political offices people without any meaningful policies other than Turn-By-Turn mentality or those whose lives are laden with corruption and avaricious materialism and acquisition of ill-gotten wealth.
Lagos State necessarily must use its enormous revenue generated as IGR for the benefit and development of the State and not a godfather or his children who have carted and coveted its resources for personal gains.
The voting public can no longer afford discrimination on grounds of gender, status, tribe or race. It is wise that the primary considerations should be competence, honesty, availability of good manifesto, rigorous campaign and Town Hall meetings.
The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has made an acclaimed choice of Olori Oba (Epe) Morenike Animashaun as its Deputy Gubernatorial Candidate in Lagos State and the Party at all levels are siesed of the fact that it is an excellent choice, irrespective of the palpable fear of the ruling Party.
The Social Democratic Party (SDP) as a political Party is not obliged under any circumstances to consult its rival opposition before determining its candidates for elections.
It is time to commence the campaign in all the nooks and crannies of the State and seek the mandate of the people. This is the (true) nature of democracy and democratic governance, which is rightfully described as a “social contract” with its essential ingredient being: “The greatest happiness of the greatest number”.
