SDP Tackles APC Over HOPE Slogan

The Social Democratic Party and All Progressives Congress are at loggerheads with each other over a slogan being used by APC and might have no option than to approach the law court to wrestle the ownership of the logo.

This is according to the gubernatorial Candidate of the party in Lagos State, Chief Kunle Uthman.

According to him, the events in the recent past has made it mandatory that the SDP, as a political party to confront the APC headon regarding the “rogue” issue of usurpation of our slogan, historically founded for the 2023 elections.

He noted that, “Hope”, which Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the APC Presidential Candidate has adopted and is branding everywhere is the coinage of the SDP since the time of M.K.O. Abiola. It was used extensively as SDP party slogan during the Abiola/ Kingibe Campaign in the 90s.

In his statement on Wednesday, Chief Uthman provokes the thought of all party members to review the motivation for choice of Jos as the place to launch the APC Presidential Campaign. It’s all that of our founding fathers and their efforts to bring “Hope” to the citizens after military interregnum.

The politician argued that if the candidates of the SDP don’t intend to be subsumed by APC in the electioneering campaign, its legal team should consider commencement of legal proceedings against APC.

He stated, “The litigation will be to obtain a mandatory order to henceforth stop Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC from misleading the populace by using and continuing to use the slogan of a rival political party poised to bring “Hope” to a nation desolate by a ruling Party assessed as a failure.

“The continuing silence of the SDP on this matter is surreptitiously creating problems in the campaign and fostering the rumours in the public space.

“HOPE is our slogan and necessarily we are obliged to assert our rights against our rival Candidate and his political party the APC, he submitted.”
