Police Officers’ Wives Association, POWA, now has a new Chairperson. She is Mrs. Folayemi Owohunwa, the wife of the Lagos State Police Commissioner, CP. Idowu Owohunwa.
The new POWA leader took over from Mrs Tosin Alabi on Friday at a brief ceremony witnessed by some officers’ wives from the command, held at the POWA’s Secretariat, GRA, Ikeja.
The POWA leader asked for cooperation and commitments to the association from the officers’ wives in the state.
She said their cooperations would assist her to succeed in new position, adding that their advice and constructive criticism would put the association in a better level during her tenure.
Mrs Owohunwa charged the members to always encourage and support their spouses.
She urged them to always pray for their husbands’ safety and success in their policing duties.
She pledged to establish a Foundation where scholarship can be given to some police children in secondary school and university.
Her words: Those that gain admission to university, some of them will be selected for scholarships. We are going to set that up. I believed and I hope it will continue when I am no longer here.”
The Chairperson of POWA also promised to look into life after retirement on the part of retired police officers wives once their husbands retired.
She said this will help the members to know what to do and when to do it.
The chairperson said there would be health programme for the women that will be carried out at different barracks in the State.
