A 20-year-old commercial motorcyclist, Adekunle Frances, is now in the custody of the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly assaulting Idowu Joshua, a security officer at Olabisi Onabanjo University, OOU, in Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State.

The suspect is reported to have used a whip that is believed to be laced with a criminal charm.

This information was communicaed by CSP Omolola Odutola, the Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Police Command Headquarters Eleweran, Abeokuta.

According to the spokesperson, the incident occurred on February 1, 2025, around 4:30p,m, when the security officer, who was performing his lawful duties at the university’s mini campus, reported that Adekunle had dropped off a passenger and illegally parked his motorcycle at the school gate.

The police stated, “When cautioned to repark his motorcycle, Adekunle Frances refused, engaged the security officer in a physical altercation, and assaulted him with the whip.

“Upon receiving the complaint, officers from the Ago-Iwoye Divisional Police Command quickly responded and arrested the suspect. While the law does not explicitly recognise “criminal charm,” the suspect will be prosecuted for assault and for conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.”

The scene of the incident has been examined, and further investigations are ongoing.

Meanwhile, the Ogun State Police Command emphasises that ignorance of the law is not an excuse and warns against acts of lawlessness, violence, and any assault on security personnel.

CSP Odutola stated that further updates will be provided as the investigation unfolds.
