The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended two principal suspects linked to the brutal murder of a young woman from Nasarawa State, who was gruesomely killed and set ablaze on May 24, 2025, in the “Gangare” slum by the canal behind Mile 12 Market, Lagos.

In a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the police confirmed the arrest and assured the public of a discreet and swift investigation to ensure all perpetrators are brought to book.
According to the statement, “Contrary to speculations circulating and other misinformation about the cause of the murder of the deceased, it was found out that the deceased was residing in the slum with her Northern relatives, and her exact profession remains unidentified at this time.”
Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim was from Nasarawa State and not of Yoruba woman as earlier rumoured.
The police disclosed that the murder stemmed from a long-standing issue between the deceased and her estranged boyfriend, now on the run, who allegedly conspired with others to carry out the attack after she refused to return to the relationship.
The Command described the act as a “premeditated crime of conspiracy and cold-blooded murder,” firmly stating that there was no element of blasphemy involved in the incident.
The two suspects currently in custody are being held at the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, where they are assisting with ongoing investigations aimed at apprehending the fleeing boyfriend and other suspects still at large.
CSP Hundeyin also sought to calm public nerves, assuring residents that peace has been restored to the area.
“
Lagosians are encouraged not to panic. They are urged to go about their lawful activities peacefully without apprehension,” he said.
The police also warned against the circulation of unverified information that may incite fear or tension
