The Lagos State Police Command has restored normalcy to Onosa Community in the Elemoro area of Lagos State after a confrontation between law enforcement officers and an irate mob in the early hours of Friday.

According to official reports, six officers from the Elemoro Division, while on routine patrol, encountered an irate mob.
CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Lagos State Command, stated that in the process of ensuring their own safety, the officers discharged their firearms, resulting in three individuals sustaining injuries. The victims were taken to a hospital, where they are currently receiving medical attention.
The Spokesperson further communicated that the Commissioner of Police, CP Moshood Jimoh Olohundare, personally led a team of officers to the scene shortly after the incident was reported.
Adding that his swift intervention ensured that barricades were removed, allowing the free flow of traffic in the area.
CP Jimoh to engage Onosa community leaders
Beyond restoring vehicular movement, CP Jimoh went further to engage with youth and community leaders in Onosa to de-escalate tensions. The Commissioner further extended an invitation to local representatives for discussions.
The Police stated that this is to ensure that grievances are addressed constructively and to prevent such future occurrences.
The Lagos State Police Command has placed a significant presence in the area to maintain calm and reassure residents.
Investigation underway into officers’ conduct
The officers involved in the incident have been taken into custody as investigations commence to establish the facts surrounding the use of firearms. The Command has assured the public that the inquiry will be thorough and transparent.
CSP Hundeyin, urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement officers.
“Normalcy has been restored to the area, placed a significant presence and we appeal to all residents to refrain from actions that could disrupt public safety,” Hundeyin said.
The Command also reassured the public that further updates will be provided as investigations progress.
