Power shift at Lagos police command
CP. Fatai Tijani took over from Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG. Olohundare Jimoh Moshood who has been deployed to Zone 2 Lagos.
CP Fatai unveils policing strategy
In his maiden inaugural speech, to the rank and file under his command, the Police boss pledged to sustain and build upon the existing security architecture and operational strategies already emplaced.
While addressing the officers of the Lagos State Command, CP. Fatai said, “The Command will sustain and build upon the existing security architecture and operational strategies already emplaced.”
Acknowledging his assignment, CP Fatai said, “This appointment is not only a privilege but call to service, but is also a duty and a responsibility to the millions of Lagos residents who rely on the the Nigeria Police Force for safety and security.
He expressed appreciation to the Inspector General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu for the confidence reposed in him to serve as the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State.
He hailed his predecessor, AIG Olohundare Jimoh for his commitment to duty and contribution to maintaining law and order in the State.
The Police boss further stated, “Lagos State as the economic hub of Nigeria and the emerging mega city of the Sub-Saharan Africa, transitioning into a smart city presents me with unique and complex security challenges. We are fully aware that a secure environment is fundamental to economic growth and public harmony, and we are prepared to meet the challenges head-on.”
“The Lagos State police Command in his mandate to protect lives and property will adopt proactive intelligence-led technological driven, and community-based policing strategies.
“We are ready to address security challenges across the state.
“Criminal elements and violators of law will not find safe haven in Lagos State.
Focus on community and youth engagement
“Community engagement will be strengthened… We will continue to build trust, deepen cooperation, and encourage residents to see the police as partners in progress.
“In the same vein, collaboration will be heavier as critical stakeholders in ensuring timely, accurate, and responsible information dissemination.
“Youth engagement will be our priority. We will constructively engage young people to foster peace, prevent crime and promote mutual respect between police and the public.
“Inter-agency collaboration is also key to our success. The government will continue to work closely with the military, Department of State Services, National Intelligence Agency, Nigerian Immigration Service, and other security agencies to strengthen intelligence-gathering and facilitated cooperation.
“ The officers and men of the Command, discipline, professionalism, and integrity is non-negotiable “
“All operations will be guided by the rule and strict respect of appointer of criminal justice.
Commitment to professionalism and accountability
“The Command will maintain zero tolerance for police brutality and all forms of unprofessional conduct.
“Any personnel found wanting in will be dealt with in accordance with the extant laws and regulations.”
The welfare of the officers, training and motivation will receive due attention and motivate them for the essential and effective services they need.
“In line with the vision of the Nigeria police, we will promote accountability, discipline, professionalism, and solidarity.
“We will also leverage modern technology and enhance operational capacity, including utilising key investigative units to improve crime prevention and investigation.
Public safety and emergency contact lines
“Our operational focus will include reducing crime to the barest minimum, tackling cultism and violent crimes, ensuring discipline on our road, strengthening visibility policing, and restoring peace.
“We will also strengthen public interface and privacy. Members of the public are encouraged to report complaints or write violations to the Complaint Response Unit.
