Justice Oyindamola Ogala of the Lagos State High Court, Ikeja has heard how a 53-year-old, Dr. Samuel Obinna Ojogbo, a lecturer with the University of Lagos, UNILAG, allegedly raped a-20-year-old undergraduate student of the institution.

While being led in evidence-in-chief on Wednesday the State Prosecution Counsel, O.A Azeez, the first prosecution witness told the trial judge, “I am a student of the University of Lagos.”
At the commencement of trial, the defendant told the court that her lecturer forcefully raped her in his underground office.
The defendant was charged to court by the Lagos State Government on two count charge of sexual assault and rape.
Count one of the charge reads, “That you , Dr. Samuel Obinna Ojogbo “M”, on the 22nd of August, 2025 at about 1200hours, at the University of Lagos, Akoka Campus, Lagos State, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did rape one “F” 20years by having sexual intercourse with her without her consent in your office and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 260 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.
Count two: “That you, Dr. Samuel Ojogbo “M”, on the same date, time, and place, in the aforesaid Magisterial District, did sexually assaulted one “F” 20years an undergraduate of the University of Lagos State, Akoka Lagos State by pressing her breasts with your hand In your office and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 263(1) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015..
According to the alleged victim, the incident began on August 21, 2025, when she was writing an examination.
The lecturer reportedly approached her during the exam and asked about her performance, assuring her she would be fine and instructing her to visit his office afterward.
On one occasion, particularly on August 22, when the student had another examination supervised by the same lecturer. After the exam, she encountered him near her hostel, where he signaled her to wait.
She followed him to his office, described as an underground space without windows or administrative staff.
While discussing her exam performance, two other students briefly entered but were dismissed by the lecturer.
The alleged victim recounted that she was asked to close the door. At that moment, the lecturer allegedly forced himself on her.
Following the incident, the student said she left the office in distress and reported the matter to a friend.
The case was subsequently reported to a lecturer in her department and escalated to the Head of Department, who reportedly questioned the lack of evidence and advised caution.
Unsatisfied, the student and her family pursued the matter through institutional channels, including the school’s unit, medical examinations, and external agencies.
The case was later referred to the police, moving through the Gender Section after initial reporting at Bariga Police Station.
The alleged victim also disclosed that attempts were made by the lecturer’s family and friends to initiate private meetings following the report.
Justice Ogala adjourned the matter till April 27, 2026 for cross-examination.
