The Lagos State Ministry of Justice, MOJ, has honoured former Director of Public Prosecutions, Dr. Babajide Olumuyiwa Martins, following his appointment as the pioneer Permanent Secretary of the Bureau of the Public Defender, BPD.


The reception, held on Friday, April 24, 2026, at the Ministry’s Conference Room in Alausa, Ikeja, brought together top government officials, members of the Bar and Bench, as well as family, friends, and professional colleagues to celebrate his elevation and contributions to the justice sector.
Speaking at the event, the Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Hameed Oyenuga, described Martins as a seasoned legal practitioner and administrator whose experience will significantly advance the Ministry’s mandate.
He reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring effective justice delivery for residents of Lagos.
In her welcome address, the Permanent Secretary of the Citizens Mediation Bureau, Aderinsola Olanrewaju, commended Martins’ exemplary career, noting that his appointment reflects his dedication, competence, and unwavering commitment to public service.
Responding, Martins expressed gratitude to the Lagos State Government and acknowledged the support of key officials, including Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Head of Service Bode Agoro, and Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice Lawal Pedro.
He pledged to uphold professionalism, diligence, and collaboration in strengthening the administration of justice in the state.
Goodwill messages from judges of the Lagos State High Court, directors, state counsel, and other stakeholders highlighted Martins’ integrity, leadership, and dedication to service.
Martins’ appointment marks a significant milestone, as he becomes the pioneer Permanent Secretary of the BPD and the second Permanent Secretary appointed within a year for agencies under the Ministry by Governor Sanwo-Olu.
