President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, succeeding Professor Ishaq Oloyede whose second and final tenure will expire on July 31, 2026.

The appointment was announced in a statement issued on Thursday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Segun Aina’s profile
According to the statement, Aina is an accomplished academic and systems expert with extensive experience in examination administration, digital infrastructure, and institutional reform within the public sector.
The new JAMB registrar holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, United Kingdom, as well as a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security and a Ph.D in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University. He also completed the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.
A Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Aina reportedly began his relationship with JAMB during his National Youth Service, where he gained early experience in national admissions processes and data-driven institutional operations.
The presidency noted that his career over the last 15 years has focused on the intersection of technology, governance, and institutional transformation, with advisory roles for federal and state governments on digital transition and operational reforms.
At 39, Aina became one of Nigeria’s youngest professors in Computer Engineering and is now set to become the youngest registrar in JAMB’s history.
He has also worked as a consultant to major examination bodies, including the National Examinations Council, NECO, the National Business and Technical Examinations Board, NABTEB, and several state ministries of education, contributing to ICT system upgrades, examination integrity, and process optimisation.
Aina is a member of several professional organisations, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, COREN, the Nigerian Society of Engineers, NSE, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, IEEE, and the Institution of Engineering and Technology, IET.
President Tinubu expressed confidence that the incoming registrar would leverage his expertise and experience to build on the achievements recorded under the outgoing registrar, Professor Oloyede, and further strengthen the operations of the examination body.
