The Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced three men to life imprisonment for their roles in the Oyo school kidnap of school children and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of the State after finding them guilty of concealing information about the masterminds of the attack.

The convicts; Abdulrazak Umar, ak.a Abu Khalifa or Abu Khalid, Yunusa Musa, a.k.a Yunusa bin Musa, and Shamsu Adamu Sani, a.k.a Abu Itisar, were convicted after pleading guilty to the charges filed against them by the Federal Government.

Justice Salem Ibrahim handed down the life sentences after the defendants admitted their involvement during proceedings before the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The three also pleaded guilty to belonging to Darul Salam, an affiliate of Ansaru, a proscribed terrorist organisation in Nigeria.

They had been arraigned on a 10-count charge bordering on terrorism, kidnapping, concealment of information, incitement and illegal mining.

According to the Federal Government, the convicts aided the abduction of the school children and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State and concealed information about the identities and activities of the alleged masterminds despite having prior knowledge of the plot.

The offences were said to be contrary to Sections 26(2) and 16(1) of the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.
