The Ogun State Police Command has arrested one Fatai Quadri after a disturbing viral video showed him violently assaulting his wife, Rukayat Quadri, at their residence in Illese-Ijebu on September 15, 2025.

The footage, which sparked outrage across social media, captured the suspect delivering repeated fist blows that left the victim with visible injuries.

According to police sources, operatives from the Igbeba Divisional Police Headquarters in Ijebu-Ode swiftly moved in to apprehend the suspect following public outcry.

The case has now become a focal point in the ongoing campaign against domestic violence in Ogun State.

Viral video leads to swift arrest

Preliminary investigations revealed that the violent attack was triggered by a heated marital dispute rooted in allegations of infidelity. Police findings further showed that the suspect allegedly transferred ownership of a 10-room en-suite apartment, which he built jointly with his wife, to another woman. This act, investigators noted, aggravated the conflict and led to the violent incident captured on camera.

The victim, Rukayat, is currently receiving medical treatment for injuries sustained during the assault.

Meanwhile, her husband remains in police custody as investigations continue. The police have assured that he will be charged to court once inquiries are concluded.

Police reaffirm zero tolerance for domestic violence

In response to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP. Lanre Ogunlowo, strongly condemned the act, reiterating the Command’s firm stance against all forms of domestic violence.

He declared, “The Command has zero tolerance for domestic violence, and anyone found culpable of such acts will face the full wrath of the law.”

The Commissioner further advised the public, especially victims of abuse, to report all forms of violence or threats to the nearest police station without delay. He stressed that silence empowers perpetrators, while timely reporting ensures both protection and justice.

Call for public vigilance and justice

The arrest of Fatai has reignited public debate on the prevalence of domestic violence and the role of law enforcement in curbing it. With the video still circulating widely, many Nigerians are demanding justice and stricter penalties for offenders.

The Ogun Police Command has assured residents that the matter will be pursued diligently, serving as a warning to others who may contemplate such acts.

The Ogun State Police Command sends a clear message that perpetrators of domestic violence will be held accountable, while victims are encouraged to speak up and seek protection.
