The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of three suspects in connection with the murders of retired, Ogun State Television, OGTV broadcaster Madam Olakitan Oyesiku and her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo, 38, whose bodies were discovered at her Abeokuta residence on June 21, 2026.
The principal suspect, Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, 22, a former security guard in Oyesiku’s employment, was arrested on June 24 at a construction site in Ibara GRA, Abeokuta, where he was working as a labourer.
He has since made a confessional statement admitting his role in the killings, saying the attack was intended to “teach her a lesson” over grievances from his time working for her.
Two alleged accomplices; Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, 27, a security guard, and Sobu Obafunsho, 36, a bricklayer were subsequently arrested and linked to the criminal conspiracy.
According to police, the trio carried out the attack on the afternoon of Saturday, June 20.
They first overpowered Adetayo and used him to gain access to the residence before attacking Oyesiku, and they also allegedly killed him.
Thereafter, the suspects fled the scene in Oyesiku’s Lexus RX 330, removing the ignition key and detaching the number plates in an apparent bid to conceal the vehicle’s identity.
The car was recovered the following day, June 22, at Onikolobo area of Ogun State, with the registration plates found hidden under one of the seats.
A handwritten note left at the scene was subjected to forensic analysis, generating leads that helped investigators identify the suspects.
Further searches at locations linked to the suspects yielded a broken hammer, a cutlass, a plank, a black pen, and other exhibits.
The Commissioner of Police CP Bode Ojajuni confirmed that all three suspects made confessional statements detailing how they planned and coordinated the attack.
According to a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP. Oluseyi Babaseyi, the Ogun State Police Command wishes to emphasise that while the suspects have made useful statements and substantial evidence has been recovered in the course of the investigation, all suspects remain entitled to due process under the law.
Investigation is ongoing to consolidate all available evidence and ensure diligent prosecution of all suspects connected with the crime.
The Command remains committed to ensuring that justice is served and that all persons connected with this heinous crime are brought to book.
