A group of women in Lagos on Thursday joined the #EndBadGovernance protests against the growing hunger in Nigeria.
Unlike the other groups, they decided to take their protest to Ikeja and Alausa environs, close to the seat of government.
Led by the Women Advocates Research And Documentation Centre, WARDC, they told the leaders in clear language that Nigerians are hungry.
The converner, Dr. Abiola Akiyode-Afolabi took the women through the history of hardship in the country.
Top on the list is the fact that Nigerian cannot eat healthy meal again, unable to pay school fees amongst others.
They used song in Yoruba language to place curse on those making lives unbearable for Nigerians through anti-people policies.
It would be recalled that the Nigerian masses on Thursday, August 1, 2024 made good their threat to stage protest over the hardship occasioned by the removal of fuel subsidy and the floating of Naira.
Tagged #EndBadGovernance, it was scheduled to run for 10 days.
Initially, the Federal Government and its agents talked tough insisting that the protest would not hold citing so many reasons.
However on the eve of the protest, the Lagos State Government, Ogun State Government and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, got exparte orders restricting Lagos protesters to the Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Park and Peace Park. Ogun restricted them to Moshood Abiola Stadium, same thing with the FCT.
However, the protest in the Northern part of the country turned violent with some protesters waving the Russian flag, an act considered as treason by the government and some experts.
In the end, the security agencies backed down agreeing with the protesters that they have the right to protest within the ambit of the law.
