The death of her husband has not brought an end to Kafayat Odunola Oyelakin’s legal ordeal. Instead, it has left the widow to face the courtroom alone over allegations linked to his alleged years-long impersonation of a medical doctor.

Kafayat was re-arraigned before Justice Oyindamola Ogala of the Lagos State High Court in Ikeja on June 29, 2026, following the death of her husband, Oyelakin Sunday Oladapo, who had been the principal defendant in the case.
Oladapo had been standing trial for allegedly posing as a medical doctor despite being a microbiologist and allegedly obtaining money under false pretences from several victims.
His death prompted the Lagos State Government to amend the charges, leaving his widow as the sole defendant.
“Husband was not a medical doctor”-Prosecutor alleges
Now facing a two-count charge, Kafayat is accused of allegedly knowing that her husband was not a qualified medical doctor but allowing him to administer drugs and injections to patients between 2015 and 2022 at their residence in Kajola Estate, Agbara, Lagos.
Lagos State prosecutor O.A. Azeez further alleged that she neither prevented him from carrying out the activities nor reported him to the relevant medical or government authorities.
When the amended charges were read in court, Kafayat pleaded not guilty.
During the proceedings, Azeez informed the court of the amended information dated May 8, 2026.
Defence counsel J.A. Omotunde confirmed receipt of the charges and did not oppose the prosecution’s request for a trial date and the issuance of a witness summons for its first witness.
Justice Ogala granted the application, ordered that the defendant continue on her existing bail conditions, and adjourned the case until October 28, 2026, for the continuation of trial.
The case has drawn attention because it highlights the legal consequences that can extend beyond the principal accused, particularly where prosecutor alleges that close associate knowingly failed to stop or report suspected criminal conduct.
For Kafayat, the courtroom battle continues, this time without the husband whose actions form the centrepiece of the prosecution’s case.
