The convicted billionaire kidnapper, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, a.k.a Evans, has been rearriagned over the alleged murder of two police officers on Monday by the Lagos State Government.

The matter was transferred to Justice Oyindamola Ogala from Justice Adenike Coker of the Lagos State High Court, Ikeja.
When the matter was called, the State Prosecution Counsel, O. A Azeez, announced appearance for the State government, while Charity. O represented Chief Emefo Etudo, on behalf of Evans and Nelson Onyejaka represented his co-defendant, Joseph Emeka.
O. A. Azeez, acknowledged that the case was a transferred matter and noted that the defendants should be re-arraigned, regardless of any plea bargain applications filed by the first defendant before Justice Coker.
Convicted billionaire cases
The defendants are standing trial for an amended five counts of murder, attempt to murder, conspiracy to commit felony to wit: kidnapping and attempt to murder.
Subsequently, the charge was read to the them and both defendants pleaded not guilty to a five-count charge.
Count one reads, “That Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike (M) a.k.a Evans, Joseph Ikenna Emeka (M) on or about the 27th day of August, 2013 at about 2200 hours along Third Avenue, Festac Town, Lagos in the Lagos Judicial Division did kill one Peter Nweke.
Count two reads “That Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike (M) a.k.a Evans, Joseph Ikenna Emeka (M) on or about the 27th day of August, 2013 at about 2200 hours along Third Avenue, Festac Town, Lagos in the Lagos Judicial Division did kill one Chijioke Ngozi (M).
During the proceedings, the defendants were alleged to had on March 27, 2013 killed Peter Nwaeke around 10:00 p.m. along 3rd Avenue, Festac Town, within the Ikeja Judicial Division of Lagos State.
The offences contravene Section 221 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2011.
Evans is currently facing three different criminal cases involving kidnapping and murder, and has already been convicted in just two out of five cases.
The court adjourned trial till November 19, 2025, for the hearing and issuance of witness summons.
