A-35-year-old woman, Maureen Okirie, who allegedly killed her older brother, Stanley Okirie, aged 38, and tried to give him a secret burial in the Akute area of Ogun state has been detained by detectives from Ajuwon Division of the Ogun State Police Command, on suspicion of killing him with a pestle.

Two teenage cousins of the deceased (names withheld) aged 15 and 12, were also taken into custody in connection with the incident.
The alleged secret burial
The arrests were made on Thursday, 9th April 2026, at about 1115hours, following a tip-off that led operatives to the site of a shallow grave, in what is suspected to be an effort to conceal the crime.
Preliminary examination Indicated that the victim, Stanley Okirie, aged 38, died following a severe injury to his head.
Further investigation indicates that the victim was allegedly attacked with a wooden pestle, while the other suspects, who are relatives of the deceased, conspired in the commission of the crime and the attempted cover-up, a statement by DSP. Oluseyi Babaseyi, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer disclosed on Friday.
According to him, the suspected murder weapon has been recovered, and the body has been deposited at the Life Channel Mortuary, Olambe, for autopsy.
The statement further stated, “Acting promptly on the information, detectives arrived at the scene and caught one of the suspects attempting to bury a blood-drenched corpse in a shallow grave, in what is suspected to be an effort to conceal the crime.”
The suspects are currently in police custody and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, condemned the act, describing it as a cruel, inhumane and deeply disturbing incident, particularly as it involved close family members.
He emphasised that such acts of violence and attempts to conceal crimes will not be tolerated under any circumstance.
The CP further assured the public that the Command is fully committed to a thorough and transparent investigation, and that all those found culpable will face the full weight of the law.
He also called on residents to remain security conscious, promptly report suspicious activities, and continue to cooperate with the Police in the collective effort to rid society of criminal elements.
