The Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Federal Capital Territory, FCT Council, has nominated former Lagos State Commissioner of Police and newly promoted Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, for its “Best Crime Fighter of the Year Award” over his policing reforms and crime-fighting efforts in Lagos State.

The award is scheduled to be presented during the opening ceremony of the 2026 NUJ FCT Press Week on May 19 at the Transcorp Hilton Abuja.
In a nomination letter endorsed by the Chairman of the NUJ FCT Council, Grace Ike and the Secretary of the council, Jide Oyekunle, the union said the honour was in recognition of AIG Jimoh’s “outstanding contributions to crime fighting, public safety, and protection of press freedom” during his tenure as Lagos State Commissioner of Police.
The council noted that the 2026 Press Week is themed, “2027 Election: Defending Democracy in the Era of Disinformation.”
According to the NUJ, AIG Jimoh distinguished himself through intelligence-driven policing strategies that strengthened public safety across Lagos State.
The union stated that under his leadership, the Lagos State Police Command recorded successes in tackling violent crimes, armed robbery, cultism, kidnapping, cybercrime, and street violence in different parts of the state.
The council also commended the former police commissioner for modernising operational structures within the command through enhanced K9 deployment, improved surveillance coordination, rapid-response policing, and data-driven crime prevention mechanisms.
The NUJ further praised his swift intervention in cases involving harassment and intimidation of journalists, noting that the actions boosted confidence among media practitioners operating in high-risk environments.
“Under your exemplary leadership since assuming office as Lagos State Commissioner of Police, you transformed public safety through innovative strategies, including enhanced K9 operations, rapid response to media harassment cases, and data-driven crime reductions that safeguarded journalists in high-risk reporting while fostering stronger police-media partnerships,” the letter stated.
The council added that AIG Jimoh’s tenure was marked by increased collaboration between the police and stakeholders, including journalists, civil society organisations, community leaders, and private sector security networks.
According to the union, his leadership style promoted professionalism, accountability, intelligence sharing, and proactive crime management, contributing to improved public trust in law enforcement.
“This award celebrates your unique blend of tactical brilliance and collaborative spirit, distinguishing you as one of Nigeria’s foremost crime fighters whose efforts positively impacted both public security and media freedom,” the letter added.
AIG Jimoh, a native of Kwara State, currently heads Zone 2 Police Command, covering Lagos and Ogun states.
He joined the Nigeria Police Force in 2000 and previously served as Force Public Relations Officer before becoming Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, in 2025.
During his career, he has served in operational, investigative, administrative, and public relations roles across several commands, including the FCT, Cross River, Oyo, and Gombe, as well as in the African Union Mission in Sudan.
He has attended several professional courses within and outside Nigeria and has received multiple honours, including the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations’ Presidential Award for Public Relations Personality of the Year in 2017.
