The Lagos State High Court will commence its 2026 annual long vacation on Monday, July 20, 2026, with the exercise ending on Friday, September 11, 2026, according to a notice issued by the Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice Kazeem Olanrewaju Alogba.

The notice stated that the vacation was approved pursuant to Order 49 Rule 4(d) of the High Court of Lagos State (Civil Procedure) Rules, 2019.
During the vacation period, designated vacation judges have been assigned to sit across the state’s judicial divisions to attend to urgent civil matters.
The judicial divisions covered include Ikeja, Lagos, Badagry, Epe, Ikorodu, Surulere/Yaba, and Eti-Osa, with specific judges assigned to sit on scheduled dates throughout the vacation.
The notice, however, clarified that the Criminal Division of the High Court would continue to sit throughout the vacation.
It added that a vacation judge may also hear urgent criminal cases assigned by the Chief Judge.
It further explained that any urgent civil matter may be heard by a vacation judge during the period, except on Sundays and public holidays, where the urgency of the matter requires immediate attention.
According to the notice, applications for urgent hearings during the vacation should be made by summons in chambers before the vacation judge or the judge before whom the substantive case is pending.
The court also announced that the 2026/2027 legal year will commence on Monday, September 14, 2026, while the new legal year service will hold on Monday, September 21, 2026.
